CHAPTER THREE

Collision

Rhys slammed the hood and jumped down from the tire.

“Sorry, about your car,” I said behind a pained smile.

He jerked his head in my direction at the sound of my voice. “It’s all right. She should start now; she just needed a little Rhys TLC. Stevie can be temperamental. Like someone else I know.” His gaze scanned over Stevie’s glossy exterior. “Doesn’t look like any of the paint chipped.” He let out a long sigh and wiped his hands on his pants. “Where’s Cyril?”

“He left.”

He raised an eyebrow. “It’s not like him to eat and run.”

I placed my hand on my hip. “Not funny.”

“Sweet cheeks…” He stopped moving. He inhaled deeply and eyed me in disbelief. “What did you do?”

I shrugged. “What?”

“Don’t. I can smell him.”

“It wasn’t me.”

“Cyril!” he yelled. “Goddammit! Take her with you! Cyril!” He grabbed me by the hand and dragged me toward the pavilion that probably hosted company picnics for the people who once fueled the long-deserted factory across the parking lot. “This isn’t funny.”

“Calm down.” I tried to stroke his arm, but he brushed me away with the back of his hand.

He came to a halt and grabbed me by the shoulders. “Where is he?”

“He left.” I flapped my hand in the air simulating wings. “He told me you’d drive me home.”

“No. No. No. Absolutely not.”

I tried not to grin. I couldn’t blame him for being upset; he didn’t know the secret.

He raked his fingers through his hair, tugging on the waves in frustration.

I wrapped my fingers around his arm.

“Do not touch me.” He pulled out his cell phone and then pressed on the glass screen with frantic movements.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m calling you a cab.” He turned away from me and put the phone to his ear and shouted directions at the dispatcher. “Yes, corner of Smithfield and Bates… Yes…”

I tapped him on the shoulder. “Tell them to make sure the driver’s cute. Because he’s in for one hell of a night.”

He spun so quick he almost knocked me over. “What did you say?” A voice mumbled on the other end of the phone. He held it to his mouth and bellowed. “Just get here.” He shoved it into his pocket and fixed me with his gaze. “What did you say?”

I bit my lip. The impact of Cyril’s gift was starting to take hold. “Well…I don’t have to explain it to you, do I? I mean Cyril isn’t here and well…” I took a deep breath. Lust bubbled from within, building every moment. I rubbed my thighs together and moaned. “You know. Since…you want rid of me, I guess he’ll be the lucky one tonight.”

“Oh hell no. Why the fuck would Cyril do this to me? I’ve been good to him.” He grabbed me by the shoulder and screamed into the sky. “So not fair.”

“Rhys…”

“Don’t say anything.” He walked to the other side of the car. “Just stay over there.”

I wanted to tell him how much I desired him and that Cyril had handed me the power, but part of me enjoyed his disconcertment.
